Troy Inaccessible Sidewalk & Pedestrian Pathways Agreement Signed

June 17, 2025, Albany, NY - In January 2019, Disability Rights New York (DRNY) filed a lawsuit against the City of Troy on behalf of two residents who were injured due to poorly maintained and inaccessible sidewalks. Pending litigation, in 2022, the City of Troy conducted a comprehensive survey of pedestrian pathways.

As a result, they created a Final Transition Plan that details the necessary steps to repair the broken sidewalk system that impacted our plaintiffs. This plan includes the timeline and procedures for the repair efforts in Troy and is available on the City’s ADA page.

Additionally, Troy must issue a press release to inform residents about how they can report any barriers they encounter along pedestrian pathways.

“All residents in the City of Troy need to be able to rely on safe and accessible pathways. The Transition Plan that is now in place is crucial for both residents and visitors who navigate the city using wheelchairs or assistive devices”, said Timothy Clune, Esq., Executive Director DRNY, “Residents will have a clear way to report issues to the City, which can and must take action upon receiving those reports.
