 Topic Description:

This presentation is designed to teach parents and guardians how to advocate for compensatory education services while they are available to students. The presentation will include a brief overview of compensatory education law, as well as information regarding who qualifies for compensatory education services, and on how to request and advocate for compensatory education services. We will also review specific changes and allowances to compensatory education services as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.  

Our Presenter:
Jessica Richwald, Esq. is a Senior Staff Attorney at Disability Rights New York, a non-profit law and advocacy group that serves as the Protection & Advocacy agency for New York State. Jessica has extensive experience litigating systemic disability discrimination issues, as well as a wide-variety of experience representing individual clients with disabilities in finding creative solutions to everyday barriers. She has represented students from all across New York State in seeking reasonable accommodations from their school districts, and specializes in the intersection of the ADA and special education.
